Enoteca al Brindisi is not just a historic shop, it is HISTORY itself. Known as Hostaria del Chiucchiolino, after its old owner nicknamed Chiuchiolin, it has always stood in Via Guglielmo degli Adelardi, right along the left side of Ferrara’s Cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first written record of this inn dates back to 1435, a year in which it was already famous. Mentioned by Ludovico Ariosto in his 1533 comedy “La Lena”, this inn is considered the oldest in the world, as recorded in the Guinness World Records. As proof, a plaque has been placed beside the entrance recalling Ariosto’s citation to this day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This venue, which has survived through the centuries with the same function of serving food and drink, has also been awarded the recognition of Historic Venue of Italy by the Associazione Locali Storici d’Italia, attesting to its historic character as well as the Govoni-Pellegrini family’s 50 uninterrupted years of business. Signora Maurizia Govoni in fact ran the business until 2013, when her son Federico Pellegrini, the current owner, took over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The unique atmosphere of this venue goes hand in hand with the uniqueness of what it offers: here you can taste not only local wines, with special attention to genuine local “gems”, but also, alongside the wines, a rich and delicious selection of traditional Ferrara dishes, as well as a wide choice of whiskies and spirits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
