Bazar Tabaccheria di Luciano Bandiera

Bazar Bandiera is the longest-running business in Viconovo, a hamlet of Ferrara located on the right bank of the Po di Volano, in the lush Ferrara countryside.

With over seventy years of continuous service to the community behind it, this business has its roots in 1952, the year in which the first trading licence was issued to Mr. Renzo Bandiera, the founder. It was he who opened, together with his wife Bruna Stabellini, a small prefabricated kiosk in the green area near the Darsena on the Volano river, on via dell’Ansa, which immediately became a meeting point for the whole village, especially during the summer months, also thanks to the rows of tables set up to welcome customers.

In the 1960s, as the business grew, construction began on the current premises on via Massafiscaglia, where the shop was moved in the middle of the decade. With the move, the business took on a more stable structure, expanding the range of products offered: from newspapers to hardware items, through to stationery, becoming a real point of reference for daily life in Viconovo.

The management of the shop was firmly in the hands of Bruna Stabellini, who was later joined by her son Luciano Bandiera, known to everyone simply as “Ciano”, who contributed decisively to the growth and continuity of the shop, further expanding the commercial offer with the introduction, at the start of the 2000s, of tobacco and stamped-value sales, while still keeping the same interiors and the original character of the shop.

With the gradual disappearance of the other shops in Viconovo, Bazar Bandiera has remained one of the few commercial mainstays of the village, consolidating its role as a place of sociability, service and collective memory for generations of residents. In the shop you can find everything needed for daily life, without having to travel to the supermarkets in the city.

Thanks to the constant commitment of Mr. Luciano Bandiera, the shop today represents a living testimony to local history, a symbol of resilience and attachment to the area.
