Birraria Giori dal 1881
Since 1881, Birraria Giori has stood in Ferrara’s historic centre at the foot of the Castello Estense, in Piazza Savonarola.
At the entrance you can still read an old inscription taken from a letter exchanged between architects. One of them, from Rome, wrote on 1 March 1881: “From the southern entrance to the Piazza de li Pollajuol, passing beneath the arches of the Palazzo de li Via Legati, there is a Birraria run by one Giori, where, among merchants and fine people, one may sit in the shade of the Castello Estense and admire all that magnificence.”
Born from the entrepreneurial idea of Mr Guelfo Giori, since its founding this beer hall has had only three changes of management, keeping over the years the same external features and the same core offering: beer and sandwiches.
The venue, with its old-world charm and its late-19th-century glazed gazebo reminiscent of a lantern, is in itself an irresistible attraction; the outdoor seating area with its tables in the shade of the Castle offers a unique experience.
The prestigious, strategic location has meant the offering has always lived up to the highest standards: for years the management has been committed to preserving and guaranteeing the impeccable quality of the products it sells, also relying on the collaboration of other historic shops and local businesses for the supply of raw materials.
The documentation supporting the historic character of this shop is extensive, drawn from sources such as photographs, film footage and numerous certificates, but the true proof of its success lies in the constant crowd at its tables, which locals and tourists simply cannot resist.
